Thom Yorke, Kendrick Lamar and SZA, Jónsi and Troye Sivan Among Musicians Shortlisted for 2019 Oscars

The award season for 2019 is among us. The Grammy’s, the Golden Globes and the Oscars. In anticipation of the official nominations,  the Oscars have revealed the shortlists for Best Original Song and Best Original Score. For the Best Original Song category, 15 songs have been shortlisted, including Thom Yorke’s “Suspirium”, Sampha’s  “Treasure,” Sade’s  “The Big Unknown”, Jónsi and Troye Sivan “Revelation”, Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s “Shallow,” and Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “All the Stars,” mxdwn’s fourth pick for their Top 50 Best Songs of 2018.

For Best Original Score, short-listers includes Geoff Barrow and Ben Salisbury’s AnnihilationBlack PantherBlacKkKlansmanCrazy Rich Asians, Avengers: Infinity War, and Isle of Dogs. See the full list of shortlisted songs and scores below. According to Pitchfork, this is the first time the Oscars have revealed its shortlists since 1979. Judges will condense each list to five, which will be revealed on January 22nd.

Last year’s list of nominees for song included Justin Timberlake, Sting, Mica Levi, Thomas Newman, and more others. The golden statuette was given to “City of Stars” by Justin Hurwitz, from the critically acclaimed film La La Land with Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. The film also won the Best Original Music Score.
