El-P Deletes All Tweets After Revealing Run The Jewels 4 Should Be Out This Summer

El-P of the acclaimed hip-hop duo of Run The Jewels has completely wiped his Twitter, after announcing that the groups latest album will be released this summer. The upcoming album, Run The Jewels 4, will follow the previous three self-titled albums, and is set to be the longest break for the group between studio albums.

From the deleted Tweets:

i know a lot of you are hoping we drop rtj4 this year so it’s only right i let you know clearly: we are not. we just got off tour like 5 months ago. i scored a film and got married. we started and are working on it but it’s not even close to done. i tell you because i love you.

oh and at the risk of losing the mystery of it all, RTJ4 will probably hit around summer time. i’m sorry if that schedule disappoints anyone but we need the time to make sure the music doesn’t. ❤️

The film that the Brooklyn born rapper is referring to was Fonzo, an Al Capone biopic that will star Tom Hardy, Linda Cardenelli, Academy Award Nominee Matt Dillion, and Golden Globe Winner Kyle MacLachlan. El-P  developed an entirely new score for the film.

According to Paste Magazine, the project was hinted at a year ago, with a previous Tweet stating ““fithy [sic], dirty, dusty plans unfolding with @KillerMike #RTJ4.” The duo hinted at the possibility of a release even further at this year’s Grammy’s stating that they planned to work with Mitski and Lorde, that latter of which they ended up touring with.

Outside of the album the duo have continued releasing bits of music this year, making an appearance on the aforementioned Lorde’s remix for “Supercut.” They also contributed to the soundtrack for the film Venom, with their song “Lets Go (The Royal We).”

Killer Mike and El-P have also spoken a bit about the upcoming album in past interviews. In an interview with Beats 1 earlier this year, Killer Mike spoke a bit on his personal philosophy on the record, explaining that he speaks as a rapper not a political figure.

“In terms of all that’s going on and reflecting with the music, I’ve decided to put more of it into whatever music is coming, because trying to communicate and talk, you kind of get polarized and tried to be made into a political figure, and I’m not,” Killer Mike elaborated in the interview. ” I’m a raw-ass rapper who, when asked my opinion, will give it.”

El-P further elaborated on this point. While the duo have occasionally spoken on politics on their Twitter accounts, television appearances and even university lectures, both of them have explained that their music is unique to their experience.

“At the end of the day, I think that one of the purest political statements to make is being honest and being raw and being genuine,” El-P added in the same interview. “We never were the type of people who were looking to make records that were addressing specific political situations. If it happens, it happens, and it does on occasion, but we’re not Public Enemy.”
