Bon Iver’s Eaux Claires Festival To Take 2019 Off and Plans 2020 Return at New Location

According to a note on the festival’s website, Eaux Claires Festival will take year-long hiatus before returning in 2020. The note explains that after four years, the festival founders and organizers are ready to make changes to the festival and due to that, planned the year off. They also reveal that the festival will change locations and local affiliate WEAU reports it will be in downtown Eau Claire, WI.

“No Eaux Claires V in 2019. It will happen in 2020, and it will be more focused, fun, and internal. We will have a couple of public events in the coming months hosted at Pablo Center at the Confluence. These events will incorporate performance and dialogue about the direction we plan on taking the festival throughout the coming decade. Looking forward to seeing you there.”

The festival is affiliated with Eau Claire’s most well-known artist, Justin Vernon, the impresario behind the experimental folk band Bon Iver. Last year’s festival received a bit of backlash with its “mystery lineup” approach, which saw tickets go on sale without any lineup announced.

The lineup was eventually revealed hours before the festival was set to begin, and found some fans bit disappointed when the lineup was fairly standard festival fare (The National, Sharon Van Etten, Dirty Projectors), with many acts making second and third appearances at the festival. There were also complaints from attendees that much of the performances felt too improvisational and poorly-planned with a Twitter user joking that anyone could just walk on stage and put on a performance.
