Stereolab Teases Plans for Reunion Shows After 10 Years

One of the most interesting bands of the 90s and early 2000s, Stereolab, has teased that it may in fact do a series of live performances after a 10 year break. The group was started in 1990 and quickly found a rather unique sound. Drawing upon highly electronic production and old-school pop instrumentals, the group’s sound was one of the most peculiar sounding bands out there. The band was founded by Tim Gane and Lætitia Sadier, who began experimenting with avant-pop sounds and soon found their niche. Stereolabs has songs sung in both English and French, which was just another factor that set them apart from other groups at the time.

After the release of their last album, 2008’s Chemical Chords, and its subsequent tour, the group went on a hiatus. During that time, both of the band’s founding members have spent time working on their other musical projects. Sadier was most recently involved in her project, Lætitia Sadier Source Ensemble. The group is known for its calming aesthetic, mood that is emphasized in many of their music videos.

Now Stereolab has decided to come back into the spotlight, announcing a set of reissues of many of the group’s records along with telling fans to look out for their return to live shows. All of the reissues are set to be released in 2019, and will include 7 of the group’s 9 albums. The two that will not be included are their first album, Peng!, and their last album, Chemical Chords. Some of their most popular songs that will be re-released include “French Disko,” “Brakhage” and “The Flower Called Nowhere.” This is massive undertaking for the band, as they will need to look over the release of all 7 reissued albums throughout the course of a single year. Stereolab has now been announced as part of Primavera Sound Festival’s 2019 lineup. The Primavera Sound Festival will take place in Barcelona from May 30th to June 1st; it will feature diverse lineup of acts from across the globe. Tickets and the full lineup can be found at the festival’s website.
