For those music fans who were counting down the days until The National’s Homecoming Festival in April will be slightly disappointed. The Cincinnati based rock band, in a social media post stated that the festival would be taking a break in 2019. Though fans should keep their heads up because according to the National, the band hopes to be doing it again sometime in the future.
“As the year draws to a close, we want to thank everyone who made our inaugural Homecoming/MusicNow festival such an unforgettable experience. We’re taking a break in 2019, but look forward to doing it again in the future,” the band wrote on Facebook. The post can be viewed down below. So far, there is no reasoning behind the break.
The festival was founded by The National’s guitarist, Bruce Dessner in 2006 and ran annually ever since. It is held in conjunction with the MusicNOW festival on Cincinnati’s river front in Smale Park. The idea of MusicNOW is to bring together artists of the indie rock genre as well as new music at venues such as Music Hall and Memorial Hall for memorable and unique performances every year. Creating experiences for fans and artists alike. Past performances of the festival included local acts like Sufjan Stevens and St. Vincent, giving them opportunity to preview new work.
The National have recently been revealed to be one of the headliners of Madrid’s own Mad Cool Festival next summer. They previously released their seventh studio album, Sleep Well Beast is available now to purchase and stream.
