Kid Rock Won’t Face Campaign Finance Charges After Publicity Stunt Senate Run

According to the Detroit Free Press, “Kid Rock’s make-believe Senate aspirations won’t land him in hot water after all.” The FEC has declined to charge Rock with federal campaign violations following the “Kid Rock For US Senate” promotional push. The 3-1 decision last week involved the FEC dismissing a complaint from the Common Cause watchdog group, which argued that the rapper fudged candidate registration and financial reporting rules.

Kid Rock admitted, “Fuck no I’m not running for Senate” on the Howard Stern Show. He continues, “Who couldn’t figure that out? I’m releasing a new album. I’m going on tour too. Are you fucking shitting me?” Rock just released his new album Sweet Southern Sugar. He claims the Senate idea, which he toyed with publicly for months, was a mixed blessing. “It’s the worst advice I ever gave myself, but it’s been the most creative thing I’ve ever done,” he said. “And I’ve gotten to see everyone’s true colors.”

Rock stirred a frenzy in summer 2017 with hints to displace U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich. He touted a Kid Rock For Senate website, sold apparel with the slogan and inserted a fiery, R-rated stump speech into his concerts, where he took on “deadbeat dads,” national anthem protests and other hot-button topics.

Last summer, when Kid Rock unofficially announced his run for senate  his fans at a Grand Rapids show in Michigan got more than they bargained for when he took the opportunity to make his first campaign speech, notably in front of a large banner that read “Kid Rock ’18 for Senate.”

Rock shared with his fans, “It seems the government wants to give everyone health insurance, but wants us all to pay. And to be very frank, I really don’t have a problem with that, since God has blessed me and made my pockets fat.” The aspiring Michigan state senator turned continued on with his inspirational speech. A full clip of the speech is below.

In Septemberan official complaint to the Federal Election Commission and Department of Justice, Common Cause claimed that Kid Rock confirmed his candidacy when he began confirming on Twitter that KidRockForSenate.com, a website curated to sell Kid Rock for senate merchandise, was real. “I have had a ton of emails and texts asking me if this website is real…kidrockforsenate.com The answer is an absolute YES,” said the Tweet.

Kelly Tucker: Originally from Los Angeles, I grew up listening to all types of music. My first concert was Aerosmith with Skid Row, then moved on to concerts with Metallica, Lollapalooza, Guns N’ Roses, Soundgarden and more. One of my favorite shows of all time was when I was in college and someone took me to see the Allman Brothers play. I also scalped a ticket to see Pearl Jam and the amazing Eddie Vedder sing his heart out. My professional career started in 2000 at Nielsen Business Media where I was an assistant in a sales department and later got promoted to advertising account executive. When the recession hit in 2008 and the magazine was sold, I took a job at a call center and later got promoted to assistant to the CEO and COO of a global company. In 2017, I took a position at a pharmaceutical agency, and now currently responsible for coordinating meeting logistics for physicians and pharma reps throughout the United States. In my spare time, I work at Peace4Kids a non-profit in South Los Angeles and write screenplays in hopes to make a breakthrough.
