The Regrettes came out with a new song titled, “Poor Boy” which is a strong song packed with a young female punch. The band claims the song is for those who have faced sexual assault. With lyrics like, Silence is the perfect sound for the man that tried to hold you down. Poor Boy what you gonna do, these girls are coming for you.
The end of the song broadcasts an online website and phone number, where those who have been impacted by sexual assault can reach out for help. It also states the comforting message, “You are not alone” which is very helpful for those who may be suffering with the loneliness of feeling victimized.
The Regrettes are an LA based band, comprised of Lydia Night, Genessa Gariano, and Drew Thomsen. Lead singer Night shared the following on what inspired the creation of “Poor Boy.” Night says, “Poor Boy” was written at a time of being completely fed up and disgusted by all of the awful humans who think it’s okay to assault and rape others. This one is for Kavanaugh and all the other nasty men who think that this behavior is okay in any capacity. We won’t accept it and we will continue to fight against it.”
Prior to the formation of the band, lead vocalist Lydia Night met guitarist Genessa Gariano, bassist Sage Chavis, and drummer Maxx Morando in music school. At the time, Gariano, Chavis and Morando were in a band together, called “Genessa” and Night was in the two-piece band Pretty Little Demons (who changed their name to The Regrettes) with drummer Marlhy Murphy.
Both of the bands played a concert together, but not soon after Murphy departed from the band after the release their EP “Hey!” on 16 October 2015, leading to Night asking Gariano, Chavis, and Morando to join. The “Hey!” EP was eventually discovered by a representative at Warner Brothers, which would eventually lead to them signing the band. In 2016, the band toured with both Tacocat and Sleigh Bells, opened for Kate Nash, and performed at South by Southwest. Their most recent album is titled, Feel Your Feelings Fool.
