Blitzen Trapper played a warm and intimate show on a cold Los Angeles night. The venue was small, but the love for the band was huge. They were here playing their album Furr top to bottom, as it was the 10-year anniversary of their high-water release that raised them to new levels of attention on them and success.
Their opener played an awe inspiring show while people kept filtering in and moving up closer to the stage. Blitzen Trapper came on to loud cheers and claps and opened their set with “Sleepytime in the Western World” and went into performances of “Gold for Bread” and “Furr.” Once the harmonica-heavy “God & Suicide” came on, several audience members began to dance, and it was a heartwarming sight as the stage washed Eric in shades of blue and red. They continued on with “Fire & Fast Bullets,” and Eric then switched guitars for “Saturday Nite.” This performance was intense, and he showed off his guitar skills heavily during this performance, dancing and jumping up and down, which the crowd loved.
The show went on with “Black River Killer” and slowed down with “Not Your Lover.” Eric pulled his harmonica out again and then went into “Love U” and “War on Machines.” The crowd stayed fully attentive and gave a lot of love to them. To introduce “Stolen Shoes & a Rifle,” Eric remarked that “if you have DMT, this is where you wanna hit it right now,” which got lots of laughs from the crowd. They finished off their set with “Echo/Always On/EZ Con” and “Lady on the Water,” which really electrified the crowd with its long trippy intro. They had a few more for the crowd once Furr was played in full. All but one member of the band left the stage for a performance of one of their newest songs, “Booksmart Baby.” After this song, all of the band was off the stage, and it was just Eric with his acoustic guitar for a performance of “The Man Who Would Speak True.” The venue was not sold out, but the amount of love and good energy in the room was beautiful and more than enough.
