Scottish alternative-pop band Chvrches has announced their newest upcoming project; a set of songs titled Hansa Session EP. The EP will feature live recordings of 5 of the songs from their most recent album, Love is Dead. The band was formed in 2011 and released their first EP two years later in March 2013. Chvrches was created by Iain Cook, Martin Doherty and Lauren Mayberry after the group met while parts of separate musical acts. They began working together as a side project, but the band quickly became their main focus.
The group’s first full length album, The Bones of What You Believe, was released in September of 2013 as well and brought them critical acclaim and global recognition. Their unique sound and strong synths drew many fans and the group gained popularity on the radio quickly. They followed up their 2013 success with the album Every Open Eye in 2016, which was met with praise by fans for electrifying songs such as “Clearest Blue” and “Keep You On My Side.” The song “Warning Call” from that album was also featured in the video game Mirror’s Edge Catalyst. The group enjoyed even more fame following that release and kept fans excited for the band’s next album.
The album Love is Dead was released in 2018 and was their third full length release; it is the focus of the upcoming EP. The album’s release cycle was spearheaded by the single “Get Out,” a fast paced electro-pop song relying on a powerful vocal performance by singer Lauren Mayberry. The group continued to tease the album by releasing three more singles over the course of 2018, until May 25th when the album was officially released.
Now the band is going to release their favorite songs from the project for fans who wanted more from the group. Releasing on December 14th, the EP will be accompanied by a limited vinyl print available on Chvrches website. It was recorded at the Hansa Studios in Berlin, leading to the name of the EP, which has been home to many groundbreaking artists over the years. Previous artists to record at Hansa Studios include superstar David Bowie and world famous band U2. Chvrches was given the opportunity to record on such hallowed grounds in the middle of their most recent tour and the members were ecstatic for the chance to record where many of the world’s most influential musicians have created their music. The full tracklist for the album follows:
- Graffiti
- Miracle
- Get Out
- Heaven/Hell
- Really Gone
