Ghost fans got some unexpected good news after lead singer Tobias Forge (Cardinal Copia) suggested that the band is planning on releasing a new EP. According to the PRP, the news came in an interview with Rock 100.5 the KAAT.
The lead singer also suggested that some new material has already been recorded and that it could be coming sometime next year. He also spoke about his desire to film a live concert.
“My intention is not to release just another EP of covers,” Forge said, “There might be something else coming out next year, maybe, that might have been recorded already, that won’t be covers. If the production on the live front gets to the point where I want it to be, and if we happen to play dates at a venue that caters to the full production and it’s somewhere geographically were there’s an audience who is very, very, very avid and very lively, I would love to record a film – a live, visual capture.”
Forge went on to say that some audiences are more energetic than others, which is the major challenge for filming a concert. He said that some fans “can be super-passionate, but they can be very, very still.” He said that other audiences “will fuckin’ trash the place, which is so much more fun to look at from a video point of view.”
The news of a potential new EP is exciting, but somewhat surprising considering the band released their fourth album, Prequelle in June of this year. The band released “Rats” in April which spent seven weeks at number one on Billboard’s mainstream rock songs. Overall, the album reached number three on the Billboard 200 and selling 66,000 in its first week. This success made the album Ghost’s strongest debut in their 12-year history.
Despite the success of their album, Ghost has had their troubles this year. The band’s frontman, Forge, was sued by four of his former bandmates. Former Ghost guitarists Simon Soderberg and Henrik Palm, keyboardist Mauro Rubino and drummer Martin Hjerstedt sued Forge over what they claimed were unpaid wages. However, the court ruled in favor of Forge and dismissed the case in October.
With their legal troubles behind them, it looks like Ghost is looking to the future. While the EP seems to be tentatively planned for next year the band has revealed any concrete details on when fans can expect it.
