Tyler, The Creator Releases Music Video for “I Am The Grinch”

Tyler, the Creator has unveiled his new original song “I Am the Grinch” for Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch an animated feature by Illumination and Universal Pictures. The Grinch is based on Dr. Seuss’ beloved holiday classic and in the words of Tyler, “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” who is this mean fellow with his skin all green and his teeth all yellow?

The video for “I Am the Grinch” opens with a fuzzy green Grinch, who is stylistic yet still a Christmas hater. His low, negative tone belts out lyrics, I don’t like love, I don’t like fun, when I’m around Christmas is done. I am the Grinch, I’m here to ruin your day. In this video, we get a fresh cut with The Grinch. The song continues with the repeat on, 25 days in a month ain’t enough, where I don’t give a (wait a minute) don’t knock, no gifts over here.

The Grinch tells the story of a cynical grump who goes on a mission to steal Christmas, only to have his heart changed by a young girl’s generous holiday spirit. Funny, heartwarming, and visually stunning, it’s a universal story about the spirit of Christmas and the indomitable power of optimism.

The song, “I Am the Grinch” follows Tyler’s previous song for the soundtrack, which was a remake of the classic “You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch.” Both tracks are featured on The Grinch (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), released via Columbia Records. The collection also features holiday tracks from Run-DMC, Pentatonix, Jackie Wilson, The Brian Setzer Orchestra, The Supremes, Buster Poindexter and His Banshees of Blue, and Nat King Cole.

Kelly Tucker: Originally from Los Angeles, I grew up listening to all types of music. My first concert was Aerosmith with Skid Row, then moved on to concerts with Metallica, Lollapalooza, Guns N’ Roses, Soundgarden and more. One of my favorite shows of all time was when I was in college and someone took me to see the Allman Brothers play. I also scalped a ticket to see Pearl Jam and the amazing Eddie Vedder sing his heart out. My professional career started in 2000 at Nielsen Business Media where I was an assistant in a sales department and later got promoted to advertising account executive. When the recession hit in 2008 and the magazine was sold, I took a job at a call center and later got promoted to assistant to the CEO and COO of a global company. In 2017, I took a position at a pharmaceutical agency, and now currently responsible for coordinating meeting logistics for physicians and pharma reps throughout the United States. In my spare time, I work at Peace4Kids a non-profit in South Los Angeles and write screenplays in hopes to make a breakthrough.
