The Good, The Bad & The Queen Shares Video For “Gun to the Head”

With the release of their new album fast approaching the music supergroup known as The Good, The Bad & the Queen have released a video for their new video “Gun to the Head.” The song is the second single off the band’s second album Merrie Land.

Influenced by recent events in the UK, such as Brexit, the band has stated that the new album is “a reluctant good-bye letter, series of observations and reflections on Britishness in 2018.” The band hasn’t released an album since its 2007 self-titled debut, but have stated that recent events have helped give them inspiration.

In June the Damon Alban, a member of both Blur and Gorillaz, announced that the album was almost done. In October, the band revealed the name of the ten-track-album and that it would be available on November 16.

The video focuses on a masked figure dressed up as a ventriloquist dummy. The “dummy” is neatly dressed in a suit and sits on a stage with a spotlight shining down on him. The actor directly stares at the camera as if he’s trying to tell the audience a secret.

At times, more dummies appear over his shoulders, including one who looks like she is wrapped in a British flag. This is the second time this dummy has appeared. In the video for the album’s first single “Merrie Land” the same character sits in front of a movie screen as black and white images play behind him.

The tone of the video makes it looks like the band, made up of Alban, Paul Simonon of the Clash, The Verve’s Simon Tong and Tony Allen, are dealing with the fallout of the Brexit. It will be interesting to see if the character returns in future videos.
