Thom Yorke Shares Fifth Track from Suspiria Soundtrack “Unmade,” Working on New Album with Nigel Godrich for 2019 Release

Radiohead front-man Thom Yorke has revealed the title for a new song from the upcoming film Suspiria entitled “Unmade,” the fifth track of the film’s soundtrack that will be composed by Yorke. In an interview with the Spanish language publication El Mundo, the vocalist revealed that the soundtrack will be released in tomorrow, alongside the film.

Yorke also revealed that a new album produced by long time collaborator Nigel Godrich is also in the works, and is scheduled for a 2019 release. Godrich has produced both of Yorke’s prior solo studio albums, every Radiohead album since OK Computer back in 1997,  and serves as a member in Yorke’s  super-group Atoms for Peace.

“Unmade,”features Yorke’s cryptic and harmonious vocal style, backed by a soothing, yet layered instrumental performance. This track’s use of various keyboards and synthesizers, give it a similar feel to early ambient electronic music from the works of pioneers such as Tangerine Dream.

Suspiria will be a remake of the 1977 horror film classic of the same name, that was directed by legendary Italian film maker Dario Argento. To fit the film’s theme and setting, which takes place in 1970’s Germany, the film will utilize instruments from that period across its 24 track list.

“Accepting the assignment was partly a way of giving myself permission to do what I would to get out of the balls in the studio that I had built at home,” he explained in  the interview. “I wanted to chip and try sounds.”

While Yorke is predominantly known as the lead vocalist for Radiohead, he is also a well regarded multi-instrumentalist with experience playing keyboards, sythesizers, guitars and drum pads. In addition, Yorke and Radiohead’s guitarist Jonny Greenwood have extensive experience composing soundtracks for films, with the latter composing the soundtrack for You Were Never Really Here this year.

“What I should do is force myself to write, ‘Sit down and do not get up until you’re done,” he elaborated further.”But I find that very difficult, because what I enjoy the most is building the layers, sometimes the starting point is still a guitar , but I’m also worth a drum machine, or even a sound.”

Yorke also described his own personal work ethic as something that inhibits his creative process at various points, explaining that it is one of his larger limitations. Despite this, Yorke expressed that his interest in technology is one of his greatest aspects and that it helps overcome these limitations.

“I’ve always considered myself a very lazy musician . I never practice and completely rely on technology to give me ideas and to be able to move forward,” Yorke described. “I’m not strict with myself, I do not control myself, I leave a monumental mess in my path, I start working with a rhythm program before I know how it works, and I do not know how to read music either. I go around and then I have to find a way to make sense of it. That’s why you need someone to give you an answer.”

Back in September the artist announced the full track-list for the upcoming soundtrack along with list of tour dates. Earlier this month the artist released “Has Ended,” in promotion for the upcoming project as well.
