Metal-rock vets Static-X are back! Featuring original band members bassist Tony Campos, guitarist Koichi Fukuda and drummer Ken Jay have reunited and surprised fans by announcing a world tour and a new album. The album, titled Project Regeneration, is set to be released in spring 2019 and will feature 12-15 new songs. It will be released in conjunction with the world tour to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the band’s debut album Wisconsin Death Trip, released in 1999. The band will play the majority of the debut album and each show will serve as an honor to the late and great frontman of the band, Wayne Static, who tragically and suddenly passed away on November 1st, 2014. Shortly after his death, benefit show took place in Hollywood, CA and included performances from SNOT, and several members of Coal Chamber, System of A Down and Dope.
The new tour dates are to be announced at a later date. In a press release, Campos discussed the anniversary of the album and the new album, stating:
“With the 20th anniversary of Wisconsin Death Trip quickly approaching, it feels like the right time to pay our respects to the band, to Wayne, and to all the fans who have been with us right from the start.” says bassist Tony Campos. “We had a lot of material to work with… several demos that Wayne left behind, as well as some really great isolated vocal performances from some nearly finished songs. Update (01/22): The band has announced their much anticipated 20th Anniversary tour with fellow band DevilDriver serving as a co-headliner for the outing. Heavy metal band Dope will also join the outing. The tour is slated to start June 18 in Tempe, AZ and will make its trek across the states including stops in Houston, Atlanta, Toronto, Detroit, and Denver before concluding in Las Vegas July 27th. Bassist Tony Campos issued a statement about the tour, saying “Our intention is to pay ultimate respect to Wayne and to celebrate the music that has been in all of our hearts for more than 20 years.” “It’s all about channeling the vibe from 1999 to the best of our ability and playing those classic STATIC-X songs live and loud.”
The band is also gearing up to release their seventh studio album, Project Generation with a release date yet to be announced. It is set to feature between 12 to 15 songs of new material and will include work from longtime friend and producer for the band, Ulrich Wild. Update (03/27): A new touring vocalist has potentially been revealed to fill in for Wayne Static. It is rumored to be Dope’s frontman Edsel Dope, whose band is also joining Static-X on tour this summer. They have also announced additional legs of their world tour, including Europe, the UK, Australia and a second leg in North America. Check out the new tour dates below. According to the PRP, the band commented on the new vocalist, stating “Everyone wants to know who will be singing and how we will be pulling off the material live…. Well, here it is. Watch this video and you will see and hear exactly what we will be doing on the tour.”
