Kitten released their new song, “Oh My God” which is a breathy song with tight lyrics, Oh my God you broke me down. If I’m a queen, then where’s my crown. Oh my God you broke my heart, you took my faith, I watch you carry it away. You broke my heart. This song cuts to the core, asking the why in a relationship gone awry. Kitten shares her emotions through this sweet ballad, blazing the trail as she openly expresses her suffering of the after effects of loving someone who has broken her heart.
Chaidez explains that “Oh My God” “is about all the feelings that come rushing in simultaneously when a romance comes to an end. The song began as a relatively straightforward pop track, but because it’s KITTEN we had to put it through the aural fun house! Now it (hopefully) sounds like Talk Talk and Max Martin circa ’99 did a collab. It’s a bit of a departure from this year’s other singles, but we think you’ll dig it! :)”
Adds bandmember and producer Parker Silzer, “I’ll say that as a producer I relish any opportunity to successfully deploy an orchestra hit sample in a a song. I suspect we’ll hear a lot of them as the 90’s revivalism reaches critical mass, and I’m trying to enjoy the zeitgeist.”
Kitten is from Los Angeles, California, fronted by Chloe Chaidez they formed in 2009 and have opened for bands like No Doubt, Paramore, The Neighbourhood, Electric Six, Young the Giant, Garbage, OK Go, Blue October, and Charli XCX. Kitten played festivals such as SXSW, Jubilee, Edgefest, Middle of the Map Festival, Summerfest and Riot Fest.
In 2010, they released their first EP, Sunday School. In 2011, they followed up with their second EP Cut It Out. In August 2013, the EP Like a Stranger was made available on iTunes. Kitten’s self-titled debut album, produced by Chad Anderson and Gavin MacKillop was released on June 24, 2014. They also briefly signed with Velvet Hammer Music and Management Group in February 2014 but left in June of the same year. Former members Zach Bilson, Bryan De Leon and Waylon Rector also left the band in that year as well.
The band has been inspired by the Go-Go’s, The Motels, and Siouxsie and the Banshees. “Secrets,” one of Kitten’s new releases, was inspired by lead singer Chloe Chaidez’s parent’s divorce. The song has powerful emotion with the strong synth and drums.
