Euringer Shares New Song “The Medicine Does Not Control Me” Featuring Grimes

James Euringer, better known as Jimmy Urine, has released a new song with experimental pop vocalist Grimes entitled “The Medicine Does Not Control Me,” for his new project Euringer. This song is off the musician’s self-titled album of the same name, and also includes features from Serj Tankian, of System of A Down, and Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance fame.

This track blends in some industrial electronic based elements for Euringer’s vocals and instrumentation, blended in with Grimes angelic and atmospheric vocal sensibilities. Euringer’s vocals are distorted with electronic effects during the track, backed by electronic and dance arrangements, prior to a drop where Grime’s vocals come in to create a more atmospheric tone.

During an interview with AXS, Euringer spoke about his album, including the Grimes feature, praising her for her ability to take up so many roles. He also added that she serves as a role model for women in the music industry who are often underepresented in engineering and production based roles.

“For Grimes, it was actually sort of a last minute thing. She is totally self-contained in that she does all of her own songwriting, all her own programming, all her own videos and then she f*cking edits them and everything, which I think is amazing!” Euringer explained in the interview. “It’s super DIY, especially for somebody at such a level. She’s super proud of that and she should be because there need to be more women who are producers, engineers, writers and stuff like that.”

He also went on to discuss a few changes that had been done to the track, due to time constraints between both artists during the recording of this project. Grimes was originally intended to add her own production flares, which unfortunately could not be done quickly enough.

“So originally, I wanted to kind of flip things and let her write and produce the track and let her tell me what to do, but unfortunately, by the time we were able to get together on it, we didn’t have that kind of time. So I asked if it was alright if she just came in and sang and put her mark on the melodies and she said that would be awesome,” Euringer elaborated. “So I sent her two songs and she picked “The Medicine Does Not Control Me”, which is definitely a lot more Blade Runner-y sounding track. She put her spin on it and her whole idea behind it.”

The artist announced EURINGER, back in August of this year where it was originally scheduled for a September release. Last month he released the track with Tankian entitled “If It Ain’t You Today It Will Be You Tomorrow.“

In addition to her highly publicized relationship with Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Grimes has also been involved with other Silicon Valley ventures this year. During the summer the vocalist previewed the track “That’s What The Drugs Are For,” in a commercial for the tech giant Apple.
