Girlpool has announced a show at Baby’s All Right in celebration of the venue’s fifth anniversary. The show will take place October 23 with True Blue and Alice Cohen and the Channel 14 Weather Team. The show takes place before Girlpool hit the road with Porches on a fall US tour kicking off in Massachusetts on October 24 and finishing up in Philadelphia on November 6. Girlpool released two new singles last week, “Lucy’s” and “Where You Sink,” which follow their 2017 sophomore album Powerplant via Anti-. The Los Angeles duo explained the intricacies of both new singles. Of the former, Cleo Tucker explained, “I wrote ‘Lucy’s’ a couple of years ago to sort through some droning thoughts about hope, distraction and love.” Harmony Tividad spoke of the latter, saying, “I wrote it when I found myself looking at one person from various angles (emotionally); I found them to be beautiful in toxic but charismatic ways.”
Girlpool consists of Los Angeles duo Cleo Tucker and Harmony Tividad who dropped their first self-titled EP on Bandcamp in 2014. They re-released the EP later that year once signed with Wichita Recordings along with their debut album, Before the World Was Big, which dropped in 2015. Their lack of a rhythm section powerfully emphasized both Tucker and Tividad as they carried the EP and album triumphantly both vocally and musically. For their sophomore release, the duo enlisted the aid of drummer Miles Wintner. Their folky indie rock sound has only expanded to a more complex sound as the band continues to grow, promising a continued bright future ahead.
