Alternative pop singer Meg Myers recently released her second studio album Take Me To The Disco in July. Today, she’s released a video for one of the songs from that album, the intense and brooding “Jealous Sea.”
For the video, she teamed up with director Clara Aranovich to produce a video that is every bit as striking and intense as the song. “Anyone who’s seen Meg perform live can attest that she has incredible presence; it’s as if she becomes someone or something else all together, as if she’s channeling odd forces,” said Aranovich. “For “Jealous Sea,” I was compelled to make something that showcases this side of Meg, this power she has, a power I feel all women secretly hold.”
The video cuts between scenes of Myers in a dive bar, a nightclub, walking down dark alleys and dancing in a limousine. While she sings the lyrics, she stares longingly and desperately at what appears to be…nothing.
As the singer’s intensity grows she begins to appear agitated with others enjoying their evening, particularly a couple canoodling at the bar next to her. While she initially appears to be a harmless, if angry person, that appears to not be the case as the mood of the video builds. Storming off from the bar after glaring at the couple, with a simple wave of her hand the man in the couple flies across the bar.
The video concludes with Myers walking on the outskirts of Downtown Los Angeles. She crouches to the ground and suddenly her chest begins to glow a bizarre pinkish color and she walked into the night. An altogether disquieting video for an intensely delivered vocal performance.
