Pete Yorn and Scarlett Johansson Shares Music Video for New Single “Iguana Bird”

Actress and singer Scarlett Johansson and American singer-songwriter Pete Yorn returned with new music earlier this year in the form of an EP titled Apart, following the duo’s 2009 release Break Up, which was even certified platinum in France. Today, they unveiled a new music video for the EP opener “Iguana Bird.”

The clip for “Iguana Bird” was directed Bonnie Wright, most well-known for her role as Ginny Weasley in the Harry Potter film series. The clip is a fairly straightforward yet well executed affair, featuring a downhearted young girl. The girl attempts to find someone to form a connection with in an atmospheric bar to no avail, before she ends up letting go of her inhibitions and dancing the lights up.

“I have been a fan of Bonnie’s work,” Yorn says about working with Wright. “She came to us with a visual concept that really captured the emotion behind the song in an original way.”

“Pete Yorn and Scarlett Johansson’s new single ‘Iguana Bird’ evoked for me that new loneliness you feel in the wake of a break up, having spent every moment with someone you now have to create new memories that feel forced and out of touch with what you know,” Wright said about the track. “I was inspired by the dance scene in Jean Luc-Godard’s film Bande à Part, most particularly Anna Karina’s character, and the vulnerable beauty often explored in French cinema during the ‘60s.”

“If Break Up was dealing with an unraveling relationship, Apart is dealing with the aftermath,” Yorn explained about the EP. “It acknowledges the array of heavy emotions that come up living separate lives. You’re getting used to the idea of not being with someone who has been a big part of your life. Even after a break up has occurred, the presence of an ex still seems to loom large in one’s mind for a while. There are moments during the day where you wonder, is it really over? Or will there be another chapter in the relationship now that it has evolved? The EP is an attempt to sort through all this and get comfortable with the excitement of new freedoms while facing underlying fears of the unknown road that lies ahead.”

“Being able to revisit this project with Pete in a totally different context but within the same creative parameters is a unique artistic opportunity for me,” added Johansson. “It is always a pleasure to sing with Pete because I think our voices and stories complement each other.”
