While the song “When You See Me In My Bubble” by Berlin-based pop artist Tuvaband is perfectly pleasant its accompanying video, which we are premiering today is a gripping and altogether disquieting piece of art. In the video, two presumptive lovers argue in a flat. Tuvaband is the now-solo project of Norwegian Tuva Hellum Marschhäuser.
At first the fight seems intensely intimate, with each of the partners speaking to each other earnestly and within close range. Gradually they begin to pull apart, pushing each other, waving their arms at each other and shouting. The fight concludes with the two men grabbing each other and falling to the bed — the man in a black shirt atop the man in the white shirt.
The scene is intense; the man in white appears to lose consciousness while the man in black exits the building, walking down a dark and wintery avenue. As the camera pans to the flat’s window, something altogether unexpected occurs.
“For this music video we tried to capture the right feeling and atmosphere rather than a very concrete and biographic story,” said Tuvaband. “Marius Mathisrud, who made the music video, and I, worked with these two guys in a small apartment for one day. The whole process was actually very intense. We could all feel the energy of this broken couple, almost like the four of us were all going through the same intense experience. It felt very realistic.”
The song is taken from the Norwegian singer’s recent album Soft Drop, which was released earlier this month. Other songs from the album include “Wolf Pack,” “Horses” and “Puppet Show.” It’s her debut album and it was released on Sept. 7 on
