New York City label Mexican Summer has announced a day-long festival to celebrate their ten-year anniversary. The festival, dubbed Mexican Summer: A Decade Deeper, will take place November 17 at Brooklyn’s Pioneer Works in Red Hook. The festival welcomes as many of the label’s artists as possible, featuring two stages on the festival grounds. The day boasts a staggering lineup, featuring Jefre Cantu-Ledesma, Arp, Pill, Drugdealer, Tonstartssbandht, Jess Williamson, Allah-Las, and Ariel Pink. The day also marks the first-ever New York performance from FJ McMahan and Quilt as well as features Part Time performing the music of both What Would You Say? and PDA. Mexican Summer has also teased in a press release the addition of “a very special, Swedish guest” yet to be announced.
An anniversary compilation LP has also been announced to honor Mexican Summer’s first ten years, featuring unreleased music from artists on their label including Ariel Pink, Connan Mockasin, Drugdealer, Part Time, Jassbusters, and many more. The thirteen-track limited-edition LP is scheduled to drop October 17 and available for pre-order now. The LP and festival celebrate Mexican Summer’s successful 10 years as a label, recognizing the incredible growth and creativity they have experienced. In 2008, Mexican Summer began as an offset of Kemando Records that was to release limited-edition and ornately-packaged records. Since their creation, Mexican Summer has taken on a life of its own, expanding to over 250 catalog releases across multiple formats for their impressive list of musicians who demonstrate a bold array of genres and styles. The label has also birthed Marfa Myths, an annual music, visual arts, and film festival in Marfa, Texas as well as Anthology, a reissue and publishing imprint. With such an active, impressive 10 years under their belt, Mexican Summer enters their next decade inspired and eager to create and collaborate.
Celebrate Mexican Summer’s 10th anniversary in style at Brooklyn’s Pioneer Works in Red Hook alongside a wide variety of the label’s roster of fantastic artists. All ticket proceeds will benefit Pioneer Works, an important voice for the arts in New York and a close friend and collaborator of Mexican Summer’s for years.
