American singer-songwriter Amanda Palmer has just sent out an email to fans on her mailing list with further details about the new, as-of-yet untitled solo album that she’s been hinting at over the past several months. Though there is still not a lot of information regarding the album itself, fans are sure to be eager for any information at all.
This upcoming record will Palmer’s first solo release in six years, but she has a response ready for any indignant fans. “i did a TED talk. i wrote a bestselling book. i put out like 23 weird passion projects. i had a baby. gimme a break, y’all,” Palmer says. Justifiably.
According to Palmer, she has been songwriting and demoing throughout the past six years, giving her patreon fans small glances and peeks by leaking the songs out “bit by bit in their fetal form. this is the two+ weeks of life where i hunker down in a recording studio and make all the magic happen.”
The album will be recorded in Los Angeles alongside John Congleton, the Grammy Award winning producer who Palmer had worked with on her 2012 record with the Grand Theft Orchestra Theatre is Evil. Since his work on Theatre is Evil, Congleton has been working with the likes of Blondie, St. Vincent, SWANS, Nelly Furtado, and the Decemberists.
Palmer says that she plans to have the album out by the coming Spring, after which she will be embarking on a world tour in support of the record. Though no dates have been officially announced, Palmer says that she’ll be touring North America, Europe (“and THE WHOLE UK”), Australia, New Zealand, “and POSSIBLY OTHER PLACES.”
Palmer also said that she will be posting more information about the upcoming record (i.e. “studio photos & videos & doing streams”) on her patreon page in the following weeks, so fans should be sure to check that out.
Plus, she says that her patrons living in the L.A. area may be able to attend a secret show, so all the more reason to continue to support Palmer.
Along with this announcement, Palmer has also unveiled a new single titled “House of Eternal Return,” a collaborative effort with experimental folk musician Jason Webley. Palmer writes “we wrote this song together back in the winter of 2016, when we did a show at Meow Wolf – an extraordinarily strange space in santa fe that inspired us.” She has finally done a proper studio recording for fans to lap up.
