Kip Berman, front man for New York-based indie pop band Pains of Being Pure at Heart just announced his new solo EP Know Me Well will be released this October. Berman’s solo EP follows a single that the band collaborated on with German singer Laura Carbone. The collaboration titled The Flowers Beneath Your Feet was made available earlier this month.

Berman addresses the style in which he recorded the album in an article with Pitchfork stating that “I wanted to pick up my guitar and sing songs in a natural way, without all the things about music that aren’t music.” The EP was recorded in single takes with four tracks.

The title track is soft and poetic with Dylan-esque elements.  The simplicity of the song reflects the raw style in which Berman recorded the EP, sounding natural and intimate. Listen below.

Pains of Being Pure at Heart emerged out of New York City in 2007 as an Indie Dream Pop band.  Their debut self-titled album was released in 2009 and peaked at number nine on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart.  Last Summer Pains of Being Pure at Heart released their fourth studio album The Echoes of Pleasure.  MXDWN’s own Alex Munoz reviewed the album when it debuted in July of 2017, saying that “The Echo of Pleasure comes at a fun time, with lots of ’80s and ’90s themes being revisited in modern alt.”
