mxdwn PREMIERE: Greg Laswell Composes A Break Up Email in New Lyric Video for “Never Want To See You Again”

Southern Californian singer-songwriter Greg Laswell just released his latest album, Next Time and we’re happy to premiere a lyric video for one of the songs from the album, “Never Want To See You Again.” The concept behind the lyric video is fairly simple, with an unseen author typing out a break-up letter. The video is an effective way to hammer home the lyrics, which deal with what appears to be an unhappy ending of a relationship gone bad.

“Very few of my songs leave little up to interpretation,” said Laswell about the song’s content. “I suppose this is one of them. Sometimes there’s something cathartic about being absolutely clear.”

Next Time is Laswell’s eighth studio album. Today on Twitter, talking about the release of the new record, he said that it was one of the most difficult records he’s ever made from a writing and production standpoint, but also the album he’s most proud of.

The record is Laswell deeply and honestly taking a look at himself. As a press release puts it, the lyrical content of Next Time is a move from emotional crisis to biographical examination. “I feel more in control than I did on my last record,” he said. “Life is the most difficult it has ever been circumstantially, but I’m also kind of okay, even if just for moments, which is all life is anyway. My hope is that’s what came across with these songs.”
