Cat Power Shares Cover of Rihanna’s “Stay”

On October 5, 2018, Cat Power will release her 11th album Wanderer. We have heard the Lana Del Rey collaboration “Woman” and today is the arrival of the “Stay” cover of Rihanna’s 2012 original.

Chan Marshall has a soft, melodic tone which soothes your senses. The delicate song performed by Marshall, with just a piano and mic at her disposal, channels a reflective and comforting interpretation.

With the classic lyrics originally crafted by Rihanna, “Not really sure how to feel about it, something in the way you move. Makes me feel like I can’t live without you, it takes me all the way. Want you to stay. Want you to stay.”

Marshall says in a press release, “I love the tradition of covering songs. I think it’s one of the highest compliments you can pay another artist. It’s one of the great traditions in American music and one of the true pleasures of music history.”

The song, co-written and features vocals by singer-songwriter Mikky Ekko, first featured on the Barbadian vocalist’s album in 2012. It’s been six years and Marshall is ready to reclaim her position as indie’s favorite wallflower with the forthcoming arrival of her latest, 11-song full-length.

Kelly Tucker: Originally from Los Angeles, I grew up listening to all types of music. My first concert was Aerosmith with Skid Row, then moved on to concerts with Metallica, Lollapalooza, Guns N’ Roses, Soundgarden and more. One of my favorite shows of all time was when I was in college and someone took me to see the Allman Brothers play. I also scalped a ticket to see Pearl Jam and the amazing Eddie Vedder sing his heart out. My professional career started in 2000 at Nielsen Business Media where I was an assistant in a sales department and later got promoted to advertising account executive. When the recession hit in 2008 and the magazine was sold, I took a job at a call center and later got promoted to assistant to the CEO and COO of a global company. In 2017, I took a position at a pharmaceutical agency, and now currently responsible for coordinating meeting logistics for physicians and pharma reps throughout the United States. In my spare time, I work at Peace4Kids a non-profit in South Los Angeles and write screenplays in hopes to make a breakthrough.
