American indie pop band The Pains of Being Pure at Heart has released a collaboration single with German singer Laura Carbone titled “The Flowers Beneath Your Feet.” The song carries an alternative indie pop sound with smooth vocals between both leads. Carbone’s vocals provide a nice contrast to the intense guitar background, reminiscent of 90s alternative rock bands such as Oasis on their What’s the Story Morning Glory album.
The video provides viewers with aesthetically rich images and stop motions of flowers and people holding hands. The use of duller colors brings out the somber tone of the lyrics, speaking of unreciprocated love. Carbone’s lyrics constantly ring “I want to be the flowers beneath your feet” but it becomes evident that the love interest does not return these same feelings.
Laura Carbone released an album this past June 2018 titled Empty Sea, and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart have laid more low the past year, with their last major project being their fourth album, The Echo of Pleasure, which was released on September 1, 2017.
