Summer is winding down and fall in the air and how does one whisk away those summer ending blues? By popping in a new track by everyone’s favorite crooner, Lana Del Rey. The pop singer and songstress has joined forces with Bleachers, the stage name of Jack Antonoff, in a new folky, psychedelic song entitled “Mariners Apartment Complex,” according to Rolling Stone. Premiering Wednesday on BBC1, the new song, which is slated to appear on Del Rey’s upcoming sixth LP which is also produced by Antonoff, will most likely be on everyone’s best of 2018 playlist.
In the video that accompanies the track, which was helmed by Del Rey’s younger sister, mixed media artist Chuck Grant, paints a vivid visual of who Del Rey is as an artist. With beautiful aerial shots of waves crashing over rocks, close-ups of Del Rey in front of a highway, holding a butterfly in her hand and walking gracefully beside a fence. The song, “Mariners Apartment Complex,” stays true to Del Rey’s roots and will not disappoint longtime fans.
Del Rey combines two of her favorite subjects, sadness, and romance in the new track released today. She croons, “I’m the board, the lightning, the thunder / Kind of girl who’s gonna make you wonder / Who you are and who you’ve been / And who I’ve been is with you on these beaches / Your Venice bitch, your diehard, your weakness / Maybe I could save you from your sins.”
Both Del Rey and Antonoff are busy working in the studio to create the upcoming album. The record will follow Del Rey’s 2017 hit Lust for Life though fans will have to wait a little longer to stream the record, it said to come out sometime in 2019. Don’t you fret though Del Rey followers, there is another new single that Del Rey will release that keep you streaming from now until next year’s album release and that is called “Venice Beach,” and it will premiere next Tuesday, September 18th.
