Speedy Ortiz, the indie rock band hailing from Northampton, Massachusetts, is taking the indie rock music scene by storm with its cover of Liz Phair’s “Blood Keeper” before their tour with her this fall. The two women share a passion for safe spaces, and have agreed on the proceeds from Speedy Ortiz’s cover of “Blood Keeper” going towards a pocket guide titled “Making Spaces Safer,” which they plan on distributing.
The tour travels across the United States as well as a portion of the United Kingdom from September through October. In a thoughtful collaborative effort on part of both Speedy Ortiz and Liz Phair for touring side by side, fans will be able to experience the works from Speedy Ortiz’s third and critically acclaimed album Twerp Verse in addition to works from Phair’s recently released Girly-Sound to Guyville: The 25th Anniversary Box Set.
Lead vocalist for Speedy Ortiz, Sadie Dupuis, has shared that one of her favorite songs by Phair is “Blood Keeper” and has expressed her enthusiasm working with someone she admires in the industry. Dupuis herself can boast of her own accomplishments as this year, because in addition to touring with her band Speedy Ortiz, she has plans to publish a book with her own original poetry, titled Mouthguard, which includes poems she began writing around seven years ago, in 2011.
