The Hold Steady have announced the third year of their “Massive Nights” show at New York City’s Brooklyn Bowl, the popular multi-night engagement looking like it’ll become an annual staple at the venue. Each of the four nights will be a different show featuring a variety of openers. The first night will be a 10th anniversary show for the band’s Stay Positive which they’ve recently performed an anniversary show for in Jersey City this summer. On December 1, there will be a screening of The Hold Steady’s documentary, A Positive Rage, across the street at the Wythe Hotel as well as a post-screening Q&A with the band and some to be announced special guests. The band also announced the release of Soundcheck/Happy Hour tickets that will include a music walking tour of Brooklyn with music writer and Rolling Stones columnist, Rob Sheffield, who is also a friend of the band.
The Hold Steady’s Massive Nights announcement arrives during the band’s Constructive Summer series of shows which have taken place throughout the summer in Asbury Park, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and includes a four night run at Toronto’s Horseshoe Tavern coming up at the end of August. The band hasn’t released a new album since 2014’s Teeth Dreams, their sixth studio album. Despite not having produced another full length album, the band has kept busy producing three two-song singles since 2017. They most recently dropped “Eureka” b/w “Esther” this March before their Constructive Summer tour. The handful of singles are also the band’s first recordings with former and now returning keyboardist, Franz Nicolay, since their 2008 Stay Positive. The Hold Steady’s frontman, Craig Finn, will also be joining The Gaslight Anthem’s Brian Fallon on a solo tour this fall, including two dates at Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg.
