Gerard Love, a founding member of legendary Scottish alternative rock band Teenage Fanclub, has announced that he is parting ways with the group this November, as reported by Pitchfork. According to a statement released by the band, Love and the other members could not agree on future touring plans, so Love will be leaving the group before their tour of Asia and Oceana. Love sang, played bass, and wrote much of the material for Teenage Fanclub, including their biggest hit in the US, 1991’s “Star Sign,” which hit number 4 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart.
Since their formation nearly thirty years ago, Teenage Fanclub has become one of the most influential alternative rock bands of all time, producing 11 critically acclaimed albums and even touring with the likes of Nirvana back in the 90’s. There is no word yet on who will replace Love in the band. The last Teenage Fanclub record to be released was the excellent Here, which came out in 2016.
