American indie band, Dispatch, have just released a new song for their upcoming album. They plan to release one every week leading up to the release of their album, Location 13.
The band stated, via the band’s website, “The song, ‘Letter to Lady J’ was written in the name of Philando Castille, Tamir Rice, Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Freddie Gray, Eric Garner, Walter Scott, and all the other innocent people killed by overly violent law enforcement.” The band has decided to make a statement for those who can no longer speak for themselves.
In the song, the band seems to call out the current administration in the line, “how long’s it been since you opened your eyes.” The band is aiming to bring to light all of the injustices done. It is a rally cry for those to stand up and do something.
The song is written as a letter to a friend. In this case, that friend is Lady Justice. The band was toying with the idea of creating a potential dialogue in personifying Justice. In this song, Dispatch is “asking her to please come out of her isolation and out into the streets where she is so badly needed.”
Dispatch’s Chad Urmston said of the song, “We have to stand up, nonviolently come together and take pride in our differences, revel in our connection with each other to fight for civil rights, for love, and for justice for all.”
This song is from the band’s upcoming album, Location 13. The album is due on November 16th and is available for pre-order. The group plans to release a song per week in preparation for the release of Location 13.
Location 13 is a collection of songs written and recorded during the America, Location 12 sessions and in the past winter. These songs on this album are additional stories that must be shared with the rest of America.
