Peter Bjorn and John @ Rough Trade 11/30, The Bowery Ballroom 12/1

Swedish indie veterans Peter Bjorn and John have announced a fall tour to support the release of their eighth album, Darker Days, which is out October 19. The tour kicks off in Europe before finishing off the second half with a handful of US tour dates. The trio arrive in New York City on November 30 to perform at Rough Trade before playing at Bowery Ballroom on December 1. Support for the Rough Trade show will come from Georgi Kay while Talos will support the band at Bowery Ballroom and on the rest of their tour. The album comes two years after Peter Bjorn and John’s 2016 Breakin’ Point and will be the band’s first US tour in two years. Although no singles have been announced yet, the band said in a press release that the album will feature, “Peter tackling what’s happening in the world right now, Bjorn delving into relationship issues and John, the most existential, exploring the shadows of our own psyche.” Clearly, the band is taking it easy on themselves.

Peter Bjorn and John formed in 1999 in Stockholm, self-releasing an EP and a handful of singles before signing with a small label, Beat That!. In 2002, they released their self-titled album and went on to sign with Planekonomi for their 2004 album Falling Out. The band met international success with their 2006 Writer’s Block supported by their single “Young Folks” which peaked at number 13 in the UK and number 22 on the US alternative charts. The trio explored different themes and styles on their following albums, with 2008’s largely instrumental Seaside Rock, 2009’s dark and experimental Living Thing, and 2011’s pop and melodic Gimme Some with the successful single “Second Chance.” They became founding members of the Swedish art collective and record label, INGRID, in 2012 which they released their seventh studio album, Breakin’ Point, under in 2016. Despite taking a short break to explore solo projects before Breakin’ Point, Peter Bjorn and John came back refreshed and brimming with creative energy, always intent on producing inspired and personal music.
