An eclectic rock EP
The second EP in Failure’s series spanning the length of 2018 is Your Body Will Be. Following March’s In The Future, Your Body Will Be is another short but entertaining collection of songs, with a psychedelic style to it and a reflection of all of the group’s collective talents. Following this EP, there is one more EP in the series left, along with a full-length compilation. Your Body Will Be is yet another wonderful addition to Failure’s decades-long catalog, and it definitely continues to show how impressive their current yearlong project is.
The first song on the EP is “No One Left.” The track is a great way to start off the album as it’s a melodic song and less experimental. It also has a great guitar riff in the beginning, making it a song that draws listeners in instantly. The lyrics as well are full of imagery, with one of the strongest lines being “careful what you dream / the ground is full of gardens cold.” It’s an all-around impressive song that the group will surely be remembered for for years to come. The second song is “Solar Eyes,” which is very different in comparison to “No One Left,” minus the fact that it also begins with a memorable guitar riff. The guitar throughout the song sounds as if it’s singing along with lead vocalist Ken Andrews. “Solar Eyes” reflects the band’s ’90s roots in its sound and style, and it’s another example of how broad the group’s talents are.
The third song on the EP is “What Makes It Easy,” a slower song with vocals that give off a dream-like feeling. It has a Pink Floyd vibe to it, and the lyrics paint dreamlike images that don’t fully make sense. “The rest is outer space / separate from you / if you’re a monster now / you’ll be one later too.” It’s a very different song from the first two on the EP, but much like In The Future, Your Body Will Be is able to show a range of musical diversity in just a few short songs.
The fourth and final song off of Your Body Will Be is “Segue 11,” a somewhat creepy song with no vocals and an obvious follow up of “Segue 10” from the previous EP. This instrumental track is rather brief, coming in at 2:51, and features what sounds like a sitar as one of the instruments. It serves as an obvious pathway into the next EP, and when the compilation album does come out it’ll be interesting to see how each EP connects.
