Weird Al Joins Weezer On-Stage for Accordion Solo During Cover of Toto’s “Africa”

Weezer’s cover of Toto’s “Africa” arose unexpectedly from what began as a joking fan request and transformed into a full-blown meme.
For more than year, the Twitter account @WeezerAfrica campaigned Weezer to cover the classic Toto song. At first, the band acknowledged the fan campaign by releasing a cover of Toto’s “Rosanna” instead.
However, in May, fan request was finally answered, with a full blown rendition of the 1982 hit single not only available on YouTube,  but available for streaming and downloading on other platforms.
From there, the cover continued to get airplay in new and unexpected ways.  In July, Toto keyboardist Steve Porcaro  joined them for a rendition of the song on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.  Then, their August 8 show at Los Angeles’ The Forum is where they arguably hit their peak, with the special guest appearance of comedy legend, “Weird Al” Yankovic.
Weird Al handled the keyboard solo like pro, capably playing on his ever-present accordion. Check out the full performance of Weezer’s “Africa” featuring “Weird Al” Yankovic below.
Getting in on their version of the game, Toto returned the favor later that night by performing their version of Weezer’s “Hash Pipe.” Watch Toto’s cover of Weezer below.
