Denzel Curry @ Gramercy Theatre 10/09

Earlier this summer, Denzel Curry announced a fall tour in support of his third studio album, TA13OO, which released in three parts over the course of a week, the final part coming out on July 27. Due to popular demand, a New York City show has been added to the tour, taking place October 9 at Gramercy Theatre. The show’s announcement arrives after Curry’s packed album release show at Brooklyn’s Market Hotel where he performed the album to a sold-out crowd despite a broken AC, delivering an incredible night replete with guest rappers including Brooklyn’s own Flatbush Zombies. Curry will also return to New York City at the end of August before going out on tour to perform at Afropunk Brooklyn. Curry will also perform sets at Meteor Festival, Climax Festival, and Life is Beautiful following his set at Afropunk.

The 23-year-old Florida native has been lauded for his latest album, critics and fans alike embracing the artistic challenges and changes Curry has embraced in the three-part album. Emerging from the SoundCloud rap scene, Curry beat the odds and made himself stand out with his rapid-fire, emotional delivery in his first two albums, Nostalgic 64 and Imperial. With TA13OO, Curry’s daring ambition has paid off tenfold, debuting at number 28 on Billboard’s Top 200 and number 13 on Billboard’s Top Rap Albums. TA13OO’s creative use of breaking the album into three sections, each which serve as a different mood piece, demonstrates Curry’s continued growth as a lyricist and artist. The album explores Curry’s use of singing and melodies, Curry explaining, “I had to learn to use less of my abrasive side, and learn to use more of my cool and calm side. With that I learned how to become who I am.”
