Erika Wennerstrom shares her new music video for song, “Staring Out the Window.” This newest song comes from her solo debut album,, Sweet Unknown. The song is a contemplative, self-loving, and relatable ballad. Check out the video below:
The music video is a unique compilation of many different forms of art, visual and audio. The music video, with muted tones, texture on texture, pops of color and movement in each frame, cuts from scene to scene. The music video acts as a collage with many images pieced together to make a whole.
In each frame, the video portrays a figure staring out the window. As opposed to a normal shaped person, the creators had a different vision in mind. The figures staring out the windows are people who have plants for heads.
The slow vocals create a sense of calm sadness that one feels when looking out a window and wondering about what great things may be waiting for them or what great things may be passing them by. Consequence of Sound said of Wennerstrom’s album, Sweet Unknown: “Sweet Unknown is driven by Wennerstrom’s vocals, the warm and bluesy instrument fans of Heartless Bastards have grown to love. It’s also highlighted by her notes of inspiration – directed toward herself and her listeners.”
Wennerstrom says of writing, producing, and singing for this album, “it was a really freeing experience. I found strength in my vulnerability as an artist, and really, just as a person. It kind of forced me to allow myself to be a little more exposed and stand on my own two feet.”
Maybe that’s what this video is really all about, staring at the window and seeing all that you can be.
