Amanda Palmer has announced she and Jason Webley will be recording a new album this fall in Los Angeles. Additionally, via Press release, the artist says she’s working on a new video for “electric blanket” and has hired Hoku Uchiyama who previously directed the video for her track “Have You Seen My Sister Evelyn.”
Palmer and Edward Ka-Spel recently shared a remix of “Pulp Fiction” along with an ambitious stop-motion-animated video from artist David Mack who is currently working on a Dark Horse adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods. The clip was shared via Patreon and funded by 11,000 patrons.
Palmer is known for her DIY ethic and advocating for working outside the restrictive infrastructure within the entertainment industry. According to Billboard, Palmer raised $1.2 million in 2012 to fund her solo album Theatre Is Evil along with a tour. Now, the artist has moved over to Patreon and raised $1.58 million in three years.
“I am good at business,” Palmer says of crowdsourcing. “But that’s not why people are giving me money. They’re giving me money because I’m good at making music.”
She goes on to discuss the concept behind fundraising, saying, “[It is the ethos of] not selling it out, putting on shows in basements, forming your own label, and fuck the man. I have found it so bewildering bands feel all this shame around crowdfunding, this system is punk as fuck.”
Be on the lookout for Palmer in Los Angeles this fall where she says “hijinx” and a “secret patron-only gig” may be on the horizon.
