Looks like Vampire Weekend have signed with Sony Music, moving on from longtime home XL. Additionally, the band appears to have a new release imminent, as MusicWeek reports a Sony financial record indicates the band’s fourth album, which is still untitled, is considered a “noteworthy project” for the company in the third quarter, which ends on September 30.
The band’s first three records were released by British indie XL Recordings, home of a wide range of experimental, alternative, electronic, and hip-hop artists. Their last album was the excellent Modern Vampires of the City in 2013, which landed atop many music site’s end of the year lists, including at #35 on our best albums of 2013 list.
The band were rumored to be in talks with Columbia Records’ Rob Stringer in 2016 when he was in charge of the label. Stringer is now the CEO of Sony Music, making the signing a logical progression for the band, who appear ready to release their major label debut in 2018.
