Rage against the Machine, a rock band hailing from Los Angeles, is finally receiving light as to why the band disbanded. Tom Morello—the band’s guitarist is set to release his own solo album and recently commented on the band’s split. In an interview on Apple Music’s Beats 1, Morello states, ““I’ll put myself first and foremost. It was a lack of emotional maturity in being able to deal with each other as people. We had political vision and the shows never suffered, but we just couldn’t agree on stuff and that unearthed feelings that made it hard to make records. I think there were competing visions for what it was, should be, and competing feelings about what it was like to be in the band that we didn’t deal with.”
Even though the band officially disbanded in 2000 after their album Renegades, the group habitually reunited for a series of shows running from 2007 to 2011. The band’s energy was even further continued after the forming of Prophets of Rage, a rap, rock group consisting of RATM’s Tom Morello and Brad Wilk. Other original bandmates from RATM did not join the Prophets of Rage collective—only the stated primary guitarist and drummer. Working with rappers from Public Enemy and Cypress Hill, the original RATM bandmates continue their main craft playing their instruments to the vocalization of Chuck D, B-Real and DJ Lord.
Outside of Prophets of Rage, Tom Morello is set to release an upcoming solo album titled The Atlas Underground in October. Morello speaks of the upcoming album, “it’s shaping up to be a great soundtrack for anyone looking for something to vote to. Amid this heightened sense of impending doom, it’s now time to rally the troops in a last-ditch effort to save the planet, and our artistic souls. By challenging the boundaries of what music is and has sounded like before, you can open people’s eyes to changing the status quo in society.” Spanning from multiple genres, Morello will be featuring artists like Killer Mike, Steve Aoki, Gary Clark Jr, and more on the album. Two released songs from the upcoming The Atlas Underground can be streamed on Spotify. The album is set to release 0ctober 12th, 2018.
