It has been a sad summer for some as one of the original music festivals of the early 2000s has announced that its doors will, alas, be closing. Earlier this week, Vans Warped Tour has announced that 2018 will be the last year in which they function as a music festival. Due to the news, the people of Warped Tour have announced, as The PRP has noted, that the last Warped Tour will be recorded live for a charity release.
Now, the whole thing will not be recorded, but rather, the last stop of the tour this Sunday August 5th. The show and recording will be held at the Coral Sky Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach, Florida with all proceeds going to FEND (and opioid awareness campaign). Each performing artist will play a total of two songs live. If you’re itching for this piece of history like me, then have no fear as you can pre-order the recording of the show right here.
For those unfamiliar with FEND, it is an organization created by the people at Warped Tour in order to raise money and awareness in the fight against the current opioid epidemic that the United States is facing. Though Donald Trump may have acknowledged the problem, but that is about it. So, the fight to end the opioid addiction problem falls to us, which is why Warped Tour has decided to do this: they recognize the problem and instead of just claiming that something needs to be done, Warped Tour is using FEND to actually do somethng about it. Check out their website here.
Though a large handful of bands will be playing for the charity show, one of the more prominent acts on that day will be Reel Big Fish. Known for their incredible Ska music, RLF has paved a road of history witht heir music, creating the popularity of the genre alongside some of the other ska greats such as The Specials and The Aquabats. Not only have they been longstanding members of the music industry, they have also had their hand in film. In fact, during the bar scene of the cult classic Clueless, the band play the energetic music in the background of Cher Horowitz and her supposed date.
Simple Plan will also take part in the festivities on that day, bringing their classic alt-rock early 2000s vibe to the stage, hopefully playing their hit “Addicted.”
Though we have only touvhed upon a couple of the bands playing, the lineup of that day includes a list of over 20 musicians. See the whole list here.
