The Obsessives @ Alphaville 9/22

The Obsessives have announced a show at Alphaville in Bushwick on September 22 with support from Bad Moves, Bellows, and Oceanator. The Washington D.C. duo consists of best friends Nick Bairatchnyi on the guitar and vocals and Jackson Mansfield on the drums. The indie rock two-piece explores elements that are often reminiscent of garage punk as well as emo music, experimenting with lo-fi sounds and quirky lyrics. The Obsessives got their start from a young age, creating the band in their mid-teens. They self-released their first EPs, Bad Friends and Manners, in 2014. The EPs caught the attention of label Near Mint who they signed with before graduating high school, releasing their 2015 debut full length album Heck No, Nancy, which featured standout songs like “Daisy” and “Camping.”

After taking a gap year to decide whether to go to college or pursue music full-time, The Obsessives stuck to their guns and self-released another EP, A Great Menace Weighs Over The City, in 2016. The EP has a unique, grungy sound as Bairatchnyi and Mansfield recorded the EP using a tape machine on their own, liberating themselves from a studio and creating and releasing the music on their own. Coinciding with their EP release, they signed to Lame-O Records and put out their self-titled second full length LP in 2017. The album features the single “Surfer Rosa” which alludes to Pixies’ popular debut album, a band that they’ve cited as an inspiration alongside Weatherbox and Blink-182.

The Obsessives come to the neighborhood venue, Alphaville, in Bushwick this September, with tickets on sale now.
