Interpol Premiere New Song “Number 10” on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 Program

Interpol have just shared the new song, “Number 10,” via Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 on Apple Music. The new track, Spin reports, follows their lead single “The Rover”, released in June, and is from their upcoming album Marauder, which was produced by Dave Fridmann who has previously worked with artists The Flaming Lips and Mercury Rev.

Interpol announced the forthcoming Marauder via a theatrical press conference in Mexico City back in June. The new record marks Interpol’s sixth album, their first since 2014’s El Pintor. Earlier this month, lead vocalist Paul Banks spoke with Stereogum about opening up the band to outside producer Fridman, saying, “I think that took various degrees of convincing and reflection from each member of the band. I was game, but there were different degrees of… you know there was a little resistance, a little reluctance at first, and then I think we all got on board. I think Fridmann really did sort of become the fourth member for this record.”

He goes on to speak about stoking creativity to avoid stagnation: “I think when it gets real ugly for a band is when you run out of creative juice. I don’t think it gets ugly because your time has passed or music has changed. I think it only gets ugly when you just are forcing it because you don’t have the juice, but you need to go on tour and make some money.”

Interpol are currently on tour in support of Marauder, Consequence of Sound reports, with upcoming dates this fall in Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Boston and Chicago.

Their new song, “Number 10,” runs under three minutes with tight hooks and a smooth post-punk sound. Listen below.
