Swedish singer Robyn previewed a new song “Missing U,” on July 27, which is set to be her her first solo release since “Honey,” which was featured on HBO’s Girls back in 2017. “Missing U,” is set to be released on Monday, July 30, and is a “message to my fans that I’ve missed them.”
Robyn hinted at the possibility of releasing an album this year back in February via social media. A fan (@virtualrulo) asked “Who decides your next album release date tbh,” in response to a cryptic tweet by the singer, which was replied with “I do. Some time this year honey.”
Back in May Robyn shared demos of “Be Mine,” “Honey,” and “Dancing on My Own,” which was originally released back in 2010. While “Dancing on My Own,” has been a fan favorite since its original release, it is currently unknown whether there will be an updated track on the upcoming album.
Robyn stated that while the demo version of “Honey,” that appeared in Girls was “a good version,” of the song, she wasn’t entirely content with it. “It becomes more important to get it to a place where I made it to what I wanted it to be,” the singer clarified according to Pitchfork.
Back in April the singer posted an update in the studio with Swedish songwriter and record producer Klas Åhlund and Metronomy’s Joe Mount. Robyn had previously collaborated with Metronomy back in 2016 for the track “Hang Me Out To Dry,” and its accompanying music video.
“The songs we’ve written for Robyn’s album are varied,” Mount told Classic Pop Magazine. “Some are like classic ‘90s Robyn pop, but we’re also pushing my writing to sound a bit more modern, to match her up-to-date mind. Robyn is still figuring out what to do with her album, so my songs might not even be used. But it’s been so much fun working with Robyn that I wouldn’t mind.”
The upcoming album, which still does not have a set title or solid release date will be the singer’s first release since 2010’s Body Talk. Robyn released Body Talk as two mini-albums Body Talk Pt.1 and Body Talk Pt.2 in June and September of 2010 respectively.
On the same day she released Body Talk as an entire album, she released Body Talk Pt.3 as a 5-track EP. The EP garnered two Grammy Award nominations, one for Best Dance/Electronic Album and another for Best Dance Recording for the track “Call Your Girlfriend.”
This is currently Robyn’s largest hiatus between solo albums, succeeding her five year gap between 2005’s self-titled studio album and Body Talk.
