Panorama Music Festival 2018 in New York City has officially canceled part of its first day due to severe weather conditions, Pitchfork reports. Festival organizers sent a push notification to ticketholders stating, “We are evacuating due to severe weather. Please exit the way you entered. Panorama has been canceled today and will re-open tomorrow.”
Artists affected by the abrupt cancellation include Dua Lipa, the War on Drugs, the Weeknd, Father John Misty, Yaeji, and more. The news comes after National Weather Service issued a thunderstorm warning which remains in effect until 10 p.m. EST.
According to Billboard, attendees were asked to evacuate the island, with the festival account tweeting, “Please exit the way you entered. Ferries and shuttles are running and the pedestrian bridge is open. Panorama has been canceled for today and we will see you tomorrow.”
The announcement came during R&B singer Sabrina Claudio’s set while the artist was premiering a new song, prompting the shaken singer to say, “What is going on, Panorama!?” She then added, “What a hot mess this was.”
This year’s cancellation follows the stage floor collapse during Panorama 2017 which forced festival organizers to evacuate. The collapse occurred around 5 p.m. during Isaiah Rashad’s set and forced organizers to cancel scheduled performances by DJ Shadow, Cherry Glazer and Chris McClenney.
NYC weather for Saturday, July 28 looks favorable for reopening with a forecasted high of 84° and partly cloudy skies. Performances by Janet Jackson, Cardi B, SZA, Gucci Mane, St. Vincent and more are all scheduled for tomorrow while Sunday will host acts including The Killers, David Byrne, Fleet Foxes, The XX and ODESZA.
