Maryland-born Maggie Rogers has shared the positive and danceable pop track, “Give A Little,” which follows her 2017 debut EP Now That the Light is Fading and last May’s release of “Fallingwater,” Consequence of Sound reports. The new track, recorded at Echo Studios in Los Angeles, comes off her as-yet-untitled forthcoming album and was produced by Rogers herself and Grammy-winning producer Greg Kurstin who has previously worked with Adele, Sia and Foo Fighters.
In a note included with the press release, Stereogum reports, Rogers says “Give A Little” deals with empathy and was the last song written for her forthcoming album. “I wrote ‘Give A Little’ on the day of the national school walkout for gun control. For all the months I’ve spent feeling helpless and frustrated with the world around me, on that day I was so inspired by the change those students were fighting and continue to fight for.
“As my friend Taylor put it, ‘a world where we treat problems as human issues, not political ones.’ A world where we are visionary, not reactionary. This is a song about empathy. In the midst of all this fear and hate, what if we got the chance to re-introduce ourselves? What if somebody listened?”
After earning her degree from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Maggie Rogers released her breakout song, “Alaska,” which Rogers composed for a masterclass with Pharrell Williams. A video of Williams listening to the moving composition later went viral, and the song went on to score over 100 million global combined streams and charted on Spotify’s Viral 50 in 40 countries.
Maggie Rogers is scheduled to headline the Koko in London August 29 and 30 and perform at the Pilgrimage Music & Cultural Festival in Franklin, TN September 22 and 23.
