After nearly two decades, indie rock band Minus the Bear has announced their split which will follow a farewell tour in support of their final EP, featuring four new songs. Minus the Bear’s discography from over 17 years of recording and performing includes six studio albums and several EPs. Their final EP, Fair Enough, will drop on October 9th through Suicide Squeeze. Of the farewell tour, the Seattle natives released a statement saying, “We’ll be digging deep in the MTB catalogue and we are honored for the opportunity to play our hearts out for you one last time.” The first leg of the tour kicks off with the release of the EP and culminates in New York City at Irving Plaza now on October 29, the second show added following such high demand for the now sold out first show. The band also added a third show in their hometown of Seattle where the second leg of the tour will finish in December, marking the band’s final live performance.
The farewell comes as bittersweet. Although sad to see the band go, there is closure to be found in what seems will be a satisfying and celebratory farewell. The band reinforces their strong gratitude and indebtedness to the fans in their statement, saying, “These final shows are a celebration for the community of fans who gave us so much through years of dedication.” Since their debut album Highly Refined Pirates in 2002 to their most recent 2017 release VOIDS, Minus the Bear have amassed a dedicated fanbase and have risen to veteran status as indie rockers. Their music spans multiple genres, creating an eclectic blend of alternative/math/prog sounds that have showcased the band’s dedication to challenging the status quo and making a lasting mark in the indie music scene.
Tickets are on sale for the October 29 show and on resale for the October 28 show. Caspian will support for both of the New York City shows. Whether an old or new fan, it goes without saying that you don’t want to miss Minus the Bear’s final tour.
