The lineup for the 2019 Ecstatic Music Festival has been announced, spanning from January 7 to March 21 with six one-night only performances that pair a diverse assortment of composers and performers together to deliver unique, collaborative experiences. For 2019, Zola Jesus kicks off the festival on January 7, teaming up with composer William Brittelle and chamber orchestral group, wild Up. Zola Jesus brings her avant-garde gothic-electronic sounds to the stage, which will create a truly mesmerizing experience when paired with Brittelle’s adventurous show-stopping stylings and wild Up’s bigger than life performances. With such a diverse range of talent, the show is sure to kick off the three-month-long festival on a powerful, highly expressive note.
Zola Jesus, the stage name of Nika Roza Danilova which she has been using for over a decade, is a Midwestern native, born in Wisconsin. She’s cited the harsh winters of her hometown as a source of inspiration of her haunting music, telling the Herald Times that she’s inspired by winter “because everything is quiet…kind of like the comfort of hibernation. It’s much more productive and creative during that time of year.” Also in her roots lies years of operatic training and classical music as well as a discovery of punk music at a young age, seemingly contradicting sounds that influence her experimental recordings and help create a fresh, daring product.
With such an incredible trio to kick off 2019’s Ecstatic Music Festival, this show will linger with audience members for days after, sure to create a rare night celebrating these three bold performers.
