Houndmouth @ Rough Trade 8/05

Indie rock band Houndmouth returns to the scene with a new album and tour, making a stop at Rough Trade in Brooklyn on August 5 to promote the release of Golden Age which drops August 3.. Their third album will be the first recorded without singer and keyboardist Katie Toupin who left the band in 2016 to pursue a solo career. The band has released three singles in anticipation of the album, ensuring fans that they’ve done anything but faltered since the loss of Toupin. Welcoming in synthesizers and drum pads, the band embraces electronic influences while blending them curiously into their folky sound with their new singles “This Party,” “Waiting for the Night,” and “Modern Love.” Of the new sound, frontman Matt Myers says, “What’s happening with humans and technology right now was on my mind really heavily and we naturally went that way with the music too.”

After their formation in 2011, Houndmouth broke into the indie scene after being named band of the week by the Guardian in 2012, preceding the release of their debut album, From the Hills Below the City, in 2013. The band went on to perform on shows like Conan and Letterman and ran the festival circuit with major stops like Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits, and Newport Folk Festival. Their sophomore album, Little Neon Limelight, dropped in 2015 and featured the hit single “Sedona.”

Houndmouth’s performance at Rough Trade is a poignant one as Geoff Travis, head of Rough Trade, discovered and signed the band back in 2012 after hearing their set at SXSW. The show is free with purchase of the LP or CD of Golden Age and includes an in-store signing with the band as well.
