Metric Announce Untitled New Album for September 2018 Release and Share New Video for “Dark Saturday”

Canada’s Metric release announce the release of their seventh full-length album due September 21st. NPR’s program, “All Songs Considered” gave everyone a sneak peak at what Metric is preparing.

Their latest single “Dark Saturday” has been paired with a music video. The video was just released recently. In the video, the song opens with smashing electric guitar rifts. The video is split into four, portraying four different scenes of the band members each doing something different: getting food, getting a drink, putting makeup on and just walking down the street.

As the song progresses, the images begin to line up with one another. At one point, each member of the band spells out the word, “ever” as it is being sung. Then, the members who were for the most part just stationery all begin to move through the “Dark Saturday” city night. The band all ends up at the same place in the end, however, seemingly at different times. The last thing that the viewer is left with is Haines holding up a postcard and then flipping it around. On it, this was written: Wish you were here.

Metric’s leading lady, Emily Haines, said, “This is our seventh album as a band and we wanted the first song people heard from it to be ‘Dark Saturday’ as a sonic heads up that our guitars are back in force. Lyrically, the song depicts a dystopian nightlife scene of gaudy wealth where oblivious party girls say nauseating things like, ‘I’m so rich everything’s free.’”

Metric guitarist Jimmy Shaw said, “Justin was just what we needed in a producer for this album. He really saw every band member eye to eye and was able to capture what we each do best. It was something I realized I couldn’t do at this stage, having been in the band for so long. We were finally able to focus on just playing again, as we did at the start. Making this album brought us together in a way we hadn’t been for quite some time and I think you can hear it in the music.”

The band has yet to release a track list or any cover art but they are on tour playing live shows and they have more show dates to come:
