Cat Power Announces New Album Wanderer for October 2018 Release

Beloved American singer-songwriter Cat Power (née Chan Marshall) has announced that she will be releasing her first new record in six years, this coming October 5 via Domino Records. Titled Wanderer, this album will be a followup to 2012’s splendid Sun.

Wanderer‘s eleven tracks were self-produced by Marshall, featuring contributions from a mix of both new and “longtime friends and compatriots,” the former group including recent tour-mate Lana Del Rey on the cut “Woman.” Given that it has had a six-year gestation period, it can be reasonably assumed that everyone involved has put a lot into the album.

Power specifically mentioned that the record was meant to document her journey as a wanderer. “The course my life has taken in this journey — going from town to town, with my guitar, telling my tale; with reverence to the people who did this generations before me,” she wrote in a press release. “Folk singers, blues singers, and everything in between. They were all wanderers, and I am lucky to be among them.”

Fortunately for her multitudes of fans, Marshall will be touring heavily in support of the record, so it will be a great chance to experience her wondrous music live. She will kick off a North American Tour in September at Chicago’s Riot Fest, followed by a run of dates supporting the National, then an extensive headlining tour. She’ll then hop across the pond for a brief European run-around before returning to the US for another round in November.

The record will be available on CD and digitally as well as a limited “baby-blue vinyl” pressing that comes with a seven-inch. Marshall has teased the album with a new desert-set trailer featuring a clip from the album’s title song, which has an aura of reminiscent of early American traditional music.
